Solaris on AMD?
I just bought Solaris Operating System 9 from Suns page.
I downloaded it and burned the three discs as I was instructed to do. But when I try to boot from the disc on my AMD laptop, something goes wrong. I get some kind of error message. I tried to boot on my Intel P4, and that worked fine. So my question is if Solaris Unix 9 can't handle AMD CPUs? |

Solaris 8 x86 seems to be able to support AMD CPU's, although the overwhelming majority of systems submitted for certification are Intel-based.
Solris 8 supported components The above is a list of supoprted components for Solaris 8 x86, and I would assume that that would be valid as well for Solaris 9. I couldn't find the same list for Solaris 9, but I'm assuming it's there, I just didn't spend enough time looking for it. -Gary |
