Sun one imq problem

I'm not sure what forum to put this in, but here goes:

I have Sun imq 3.0.1 sp1 installed on solaris 8 and I am now having some problems. the imqbrokerd starts up ok, but if I try to connect to it using imqcmd or my client application attempts to connect to it, I get the following error:

[C4060]: Login failed.
Please check your username and/or password.

now I know i'm using the proper username and password, and just two weeks ago this thing worked just fine. I'm not seeing anything unusual in the logs other than this error of course.

can anyone point in in any direction of where to look or what the problem might be?
