super n00b with UNIX never heard of freebsd until just last week

okay, weird title right? So I downloaded and installed FreeBSD mainly because im tired of how boring Windows is and I love to learn new things, especially when it comes to computers. So it's installed and working fine. I have a strong feeling that UNIX users hate to spoonfeed n00bs like me but im desperate. So Ive got three main problems.

1. NO INTERNET. When I start up Gnome2 with xinit it says that it cannot find an address and that Gnome will not run properly. I ignore it and start Gnome2 with no problems. But i cant access the internet when i start epiphany or xchat.

2. It can't see my soundcard. plain and simple. I guess this question could just be turned into "how do i activate pc cards"

3. And finally, how do i make the machine boot to Gnome on startup.

Thanks for at least reading all of this, any help AT ALL is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you will need to recompile your kernel with the "device pcm" line included.
