the host command

Hello,
I am trying to do an MX record lookup with the host command - host -tMX somedomainname
Sometimes I get the name of the MX record if it finds it, a not found error, and other times it comes blank gives me the command prompt again.

Why does it go blank? does that mean the host doesnot have an MX record and could be possible spammer?
thanks.

LogicMan
