unix & DLT tape drive
Hi,
Im a newbieto unix and have been asked to verify that out backups are being backed up, can somebody tell me how to verify this in unix please. They are being backed up to a DLT tape drive. Thanks peeps Andy |

you got an extremly important job. a NOT checked backup is just ... russian roulette. do you know that play? an exciting game. - it does not matter on wich device you write - important is: how did you write on it: tar, cp, cpio, ufsdump ... the only way to really check a backup is READ IT BACK ![]() assuming you have space on disk AND the backup is correct (i mean RELATIVE, and relative is the opposite of ABSOLUTE if you have probls with this terms, stop, read a shell-book )you MUST know how the tapes are writted (the tool used) make a subdir where you have space, cd in that dir and READ the tape back using the same (or his companion) tool. easy, don't you agree? |
