    Urgent - HPUX Shadow File

Hi all, I need some help here!

When looking at a passwd file, does the "*" indicate that a password exists in the shadow file, or could it point to a blank password in the shadow file too?

Also, if the system requires minimum password length of 6, can an account even exist in the shadow file with a blank password? When someone tried to login to that account, would it allow login with a blank?

    Thanks.

Yes, I believe the * means the password is in the shadow file, which would only normally be in use if you have set up Trusted Computer Base.
You can have a null password, if it's set up as that before the conversion (I think) or if the shadow file is edited.
