Real UNIX isn't free as far as I know. OSs like Sun and AIX cost a lot of money. Aside from that, real UNIX doesn't run on Intel type chips. The servers required to run UNIX are also pricey. There's a lot of free Linux distributions available (at least the kernel is...). If you want to learn and understand the basic shell utilities of a UNIX like environment then Linux is a good way to go. You can do a search on the web for Linux. Linux can run on a PC. You can't run Windows and Linux at the same time, but you can install a boot loader to have the PC boot from one or the other. Then if you want the other OS then you turn the one that's on, off, and then boot/switch over to the other OS. If you want a more fancy version of Linux then Redhat seems to be gaining popularity as the business standard. However, Redhat isn't free, but it is reasonably priced. Remember only the Linux kernal is available for free distribuation. All the other nice bells and whistles cost a little bit of money, far less than Windows XP, but far more stable and secure (but there's less widely available application software). Hope this helps you. Oh yea, your original concern... If you're looking for real UNIX, then one place to look is at Sun Microsystem's website.
