"Bad Address" error when trying to remove Directory

I am trying to remove a directory that a user no longers wants. When I try to do this I receive an error message beside each file saying "not removed. bad address." Then at the very bottom it, of course, says cannot remove directory because directory is not empty. Also, when I do an ls -la there is no "." or ".." files so the directory doesn't even know it's parent directory. Can anyone tell me what I must do to resolve this, if possible? [I am working on an IRIX OS] Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know IRIX, but it seems the filesystem has big issues with the entire directory.
Try the IRIX equivalent of fsck, then look in the IRIX equivalent of lost+found - the default place where lost files are parked by filesystem "fix" programs.
