    Question 'scp' or 'tar'?

I use 'scp' command to copy huge files from one server to another. Can I speed up the process by using any other command for e.g. 'tar'?

You can compress the files to reduce the amount of data transferred.

SuSE 10.0 also offers the -C switch to scp which enables compression by passing the flag to SSH. According to the SSH docs, you're better off without it if you're on a fast network.
