Can I write VB code through a text editor?
Hi.As prices of Visual Basic are high for me,I was wondering if i could technically write the code through a simple text editor like vim or even word,or another kind.I know it will be difficult, that better would be the software but I have not much choice.Just telling me whether it is possible or not would be ok.Thanks for helping

you can actually write VB code in notepad, but you have to know how to make all of the form declarations in code

Even if you write the code in notepad, you will need VB to compile and run a program.
VB Scripting Edition is much more limited than VB itself, but it's free and included with windows, and you can use any text editor to write script code. |

well, I've never tried it, Doug - but it was my understanding that if you had the VBRuntime files, you could run VB programs written in a text editor. Is that a misunderstanding on my part?

Maybe in .NET, but in VB6 how would you call the textual code? PS - I haven't tried either ![]()

Med - you can get cheaper versions with VB6 student books, you can sometimes pick them up on places like half.com for about 15-20

Thanks everyone for replying.I am not working with VB,I just bought a book with a cd and I need to write code to learn it,I am new to this.but while with C/C++ I could find a good compiler here on devshed for free, with VB i can't.So,while deciding whether I like Vb or not,I can try and use the text editor, maybe vim which has more features than notepad.I can't order the trial version of Visual Studio .Net as I have no enterprise and since I had to quit college due to depression I am not a student anymore,so full price for me.also any discount on the US market will not be such a discount for me as I am Italian-so I may not be eligible for it,and if I do,shipping freights are gonna even that out.And I am still healing so I don't work and asking for money sux. So,this is my reason. Thanks,I will have to go the hardest way, learning code is better than nothing in my case
