VB6 & Component registering Dos Box

Please help, I am new to Visual Basic and I am writing a program that will act as a windows shell. One of the command buttons runs a .bat file that does two things. 1st it calls a component sync program, 2nd it starts the main program. when you click the buttun it starts to load but when the dos box opens it get closed almost as it pops up. Any ideas? thx in advance.
