404 on WAP trying to download a file..?

I created a WAP page and when users try to access a direct link to download say texasholdem via hyper link: hXXP://server/texasholdem.alx it just goes to 404 page cannot be displayed. I can go from page to page but when I try to start a download like in the example it goes straight to 404. I read in the FAQ's from magmic:

Quote:

Q: When I browse your web page on bb.magmic.com with my BlackBerry
I sometimes get a 404 File Not Found message when I try to follow
a link.

A: This is a bug in some versions of the browser on the BlackBerry.
Refresh the page and try the link again.

This does not work. I have tryed it on 2 different phones 710i and 7520 with both v4.0.2 and 4.1 have same issues.

I run the page on win2k3 IIS6 if that helps.

Any ideas would be greatly apperciated.

Rich

Hi Rich,

Welcome to Dev Shed.

I suppose the most obvious thing to ask first is:
Does the file you are trying to download actually exist?

If you are hosting in a *nix environment, remember paths and files are case sensitive.

Have you got access to your server log files? This may give you more information as to what is happening - or if you can see what response headers are being sent you will get more info too...

many mno's block external content downloads: verizon, three, telus, bell mobility and more.....

why should they let their users download stuff from external sites when they're not making any $£ themselves?

generically speaking i hate walled gardens as much as anyone else in the content game, there's ways around it but it can be tricky and flakey. the other option is to become aproved but that involves being able to deliver enough volume to really turn the networks on. (or getting lucky)
