WAP development
Hi, bro, I was just wondering if it would be possible to get some help. I am looking to setup a ringtone service for one of my university projects and was just wondering how to do this.
Was looking to select a ringtone and then downloading this through WAP, similar to what you have done. If you could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Aftab |

re ringtone services:
you need content in numerous formats to be multi handset compatible, cost effective billing solutions as people want paying per download if you don't own the conent, then there's the licencing to take into account @ 15% of sales value plus time to file reports, you'll also need delivery mechanisms, high traffic, promotion and time for customer support. i could tell you more but i'd have to kill you. re problem mmfs: it could be down to a few things, sometimes packets of data get lost or mixed up and tones error when trying to download them, sometimes mmf files need the vibro channel removing as it's too much data for the phone to handle, sometimes phones just refuse to download stuff, sometimes it's the mmf being corrupt. even the networks can be responsible for wap just being pants. could be any of many. mime type or file permission errors, obscure http errors or just a dodgy phone. there are different flavours of mmf available encoded to different specs and your phone might be a bit picky. try wapping to http://www.web2txt.co.uk/wap and click on test poly tones where there are two formats of mmf available. if your phone supports true audio tones by mmf click test true tones and check the two formats of mmf for that. if you can't get a tone from your own site, or from others it would make me think it's handset issue. <edit>that handset is a pain....... they just don't like mmf files by the looks of it and that makes it about as much use as a sperm based contraceptive. not having one to hand i can't try with other smaf formats but i'd like to hear how other people with this phone manage to do it, i'm sure they wouldn't let a total lemon like that go to market, there has to be a way of doing it...</edit>
