How to host my OWN wap site

Hey people

I need some help on what i need to do to host my own wap site. Ive installed an apache server, and my site is nearly done, its for a project so i will just need to show it for demnostration purposes. The problem is my tutor wants to see it working on a mobile phone. IS there anyway i could do this. I have a 1mb internet connect and relativly stable pc and laptop. Any sugestions would really help thanks.

oh yeah i forgot, if i wanted to make my WAP site with colour and images do i have to use xhtml. which is better wml or html. thanks

You need to get a real-life domain or IP addess to point to your PC. This can be done using several methods (I have set up a subdomain that points to my PC, though you can use things like dns2go if it still exists for example).

Thing is that many ISPs block regular ports and it is probably going against your ISPs T&Cs. That aside it is possible.

Regarding your second question, wml v2 (I think) supports GIFs, so you can chaeck if the phone supports this or not, and show if relevant. Alternatively, see if the phone supports HTML, and use HTML

HTML would be better as it means you can have a scaled down version of a site, without too much changes, see Opera for more info about that. Good luck.

so is there no way i can access the server from the mobile phone, without paying for ISP webspace. could you tell me in bit more detail please if u can, ima new to all this stuff. thanks

Well, you could just start your server, get your IP address and try typing the IP into the phone and seeing what happens.

A color GIF image can be displayed successfully in my emulator with WML. So, I think it is not a must to use XHTML to make a colorful WAP site.

Some phones accept gifs in wml, some don't. You can check against this using "accept" headers.
