I think even though wap sounds good, the world is not quite ready for it, therefore we do not have many administrators interested in it.

Waps worthless really, but it's all we've got now. GPRS is about but still viciously expensive for handsets. I think all the UK operators now support it, but bandwidth is quite expensive. Last time I looked I thnk BTCellnet were offering 128k. 3G looks like it could be 7 years before its really sorted, but then it will make DSL look like a plastic cup and a bit of string. I quite like using WAP, but 10p a minute is harsh, but thats my billing plan, I know it can be got cheaper. I'm just learning WAP and WML this week, it looks an untapped market, once people start switching over to GPRS then it could take off, best to get in now in my opinion.
AFAIK all WAP browsers are standards complient (well its XML) so its a damn site easier than HTML. If you have a solid databased site then adding WAP functionality is easy.
Having said all that I don't even like using my wap phone, its a Motorola so I end up using my non-wap Nokia, don't want to buy til I can afford a Nice GPRS one though.

wap is crap!!!
I've tried, and built a little application with apache & php, technically it worked but NO ONE has ever thought to use it.
So, here goes my interest in wap ... and I suspect that this will be the end of Personal Area Network and bluetooth ...
