Is This Logic Correct.
Hi I am new to WAP and i am doing some research about setting up a ringtone download site. can you tell me if this logic is correct.
The user comes to the site selects the ringtone and enters their telephone number, and clicks buy/submit The form post the required variables to the SMS Gateway. If successful the ringtone link is sent to the customer as a text. The customer clicks and downloads it. This is the part I need cleared up...... 1. If for instance there is an error invalid phone number or no funds on the persons phone to pay for the ringtone, is the response from the gateway sent instead back to phone as the text. and 2. How can the file to be downloaded ringtone, image etc. be protected from someone just typing it in their browser? Thanks for the help in advance... |

1) if you want it to be, you would need to work with the aggregator to get them to post you delivery reports then code something up on your end to handle it.
2) complicated, wml is handset only so will not render on a pc but you need to make sure the application serving the content does a lot of checking to make sure the phone really is a phone and so on, there's also drm which you might want to look into.... what kinda content do you have? is it your own or from other providers? if it's yours do you want to do some business, we can stick it on our platform and pay you per download we make. regards andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your reply...I am just doing the research, it's so popular now that I thought it is something I could learn to expand my knowledge... There are a couple of thing that keep going through my mind. I see on many ringtone sites they ask you to choose your phone and then select a model. I gather it has to do with seeing what ringtones is supported... Why is this? What are the annomolies between ringtone, wallpaper, etc between models? What are the issues? What is the format for polphonic ringtones I have been searching the net and all I see is stuff about nokia phones and nokia binary format. Does the format for polyphonic ringtones vary between mobile providers and their models? Is there a resource on the net that list these.... Thanks again... |

The reason your phone needs to be selected is because different phones support different file format, IE: mp3, smaf, etc... And every phone has a different screen size so supplying the correctly sized wallpaper enhances the viewing experience.
