Licensing for content

I've noticed that most of the big ringtone companies are based in europe, and therefore might have different rules to follow when it comes to paying for and getting licensing for selling content. I live in the USA and wanted to find out where I can turn to so I can get licensing for selling Ringtones, and other copywritten content (A lawsuite from the entertainment industry is the last thing I need). I've talked to licensing companies in europe and they've been helpful with explaining the laws in their country but I need to find out what the rules and regulations are in my own country. Any help is appreciated.

Any U.S citizens who might of been wondering where you have to go to obtain licensing to sell main stream music content. Go to BMI's website; they have an agreement with the entertainment industry, so they can issue licensing. Here is the direct link to the licensing section of the site. http://www.bmi.com/licensing/mobile/index.asp .And if you want to contact their offices you need to scroll to the bottom of the licensing web page and click contact and get the number for their office in Nashiville because that's the office that can issue licensing. Hope this helps anyone who was also trying to find out how to get licensing. Holla
