Send SMS from computer

Can yo send SMS/text msgs to mobile phones from computer? What is the requirement and how can I provide this facility to my users?

I have Dedicated linux server.

varun, yes, search the forums, maybe even check out the sticky post about sending sms that's right at the top of the wap forum index.

can be done through http/s, xml, soap, smpp, smtp, take your pick from the options any decent provider will give you. i recently integrated something with www.textanywhere.co.uk which was done via SOAP in PHP.

I checked the sticky post but all I found was the list of companies that are offering these services(send SMS from PC).. What I am looking for is develop a similar application for myself. I want to know what does it take to develop such application on my own server.. I want to do this only in my country (india).. not globally.. wat are the basic s/w and h/w requirements like SMS gateway, PHP, SOAP(as u suggested)..
Can I get this information somewhere .. I will look at google though.. but would be great if u can let me know if u already know (why reinvent the wheel ?)..

I actually want to write a similar application using either PHP or J2EE ..

www.kannel.org might be able to shed more light on this.

For Kannel, you need Linux skills, here's a simple Windows based freeware software that you can use to send out SMS via a phone directly from screen or using an HTTP interface - sms software .
