Hi there,
I'm embarking on a little project but I have a few questions that I would like some advice on before I begin going to all the trouble of dabbling with XML if what I want to do isn't going to work. I have a Regular site which is powered by Joomla. This is my main site where users will visit, sign up to etc. Now I need to build a small wap site that will interact with the joomla site as far as logins & permissions go. The wap site will check wether a user is registered in the Joomla database and that the user is a member of the right group before letting a user proceed by means of a login card. What I am trying to do is create a media site and if a user subscribes they are assigned into a special group in Joomla. When a user wants to view or download something they go to the wap site on their device and providing they have paid up and are in the correct group, they can log in using their Joomla site login info and access the wap members area. The user will then be directed to a menu which will have: Downloads & Stream as the options etc... What I want to know is: 1. Can my wap site be designed to do what I need 2. Is it hard for a novice to do? I have been studying the WML/XML tutorial on wc3schools and the basics of building a wap site are not to dissimilar from HTML so I can master that side of it. But its the scripting that I need to work on. Any advice here would be much appreciated. I plan to build on the wap side of things later on and perhaps even add a reverse registration from wap to joomla and even mobile payments so what ever I do I need to be able to adapt or expand upon later. I know it sounds complicated but if anyone can have a stab at helping me with some advice, snippets of code or anything, that would be great! I can work with PHP just about and I can work with xhtml & css pretty good. The wap site has to be able to work with the most basic of devices. Basically, the wap site is aimed at any device that will meet the following criteria: support wap (obviously) downloading streaming One major factor I nearly forgot is regarding the streaming of media from the members area. I am looking into using 3gpp over rtsp but one thing that will be paramount is that no one can view the stream without being authorised, ie no capturing the link and going to the stream direct. I'm wondering if some kind of java player will need to be created. I have read about the need for a player when using rtsp but Im looking into this. Any suggestions on this would be good. I'm still researching the basics of 3gpp streaming via rtsp so Im in no rush to complete this project but I'd like to start in one direction or another pretty soon. Thanks!!!!!!! ![]() |

Hi weasel,
was just doing my weekly browse of dev.mobi and came across the following article: Mobile Sites with Joomla! CMS. Does it help at all? That site in general is a great resource, so you may well find more info regarding your questions there.... HTH.
