Hi guys,
I've got a wap site up and running. - and im interested in letting people just enter their phone number, to have a txt sent to them with the link to download the file. --- after reading about abit, i found out that WAP Push is what im trying to do. So, simple questions really: Do wap push txts send as standard length sms? so i can use any of the companies in the Sending SMS Sticky? How do you actually format a txt to have a clickable link inside of it? to make the phone give the user the option to download somthing? Cheers guys. Any extra info about the subject would be reallly appericiated. Regards. |

wap pushes have two sections
a title, and a link url so the title is a short description of the download and the link url is the url of the file to download otherwise, you can try putting a url into a standard text message but i think different phones handle links within text messages differently, some allow you to go to the link, some will just display the link messages in text messages should be urlencoded (if sent using a url based text message gateway (very common i think)) hth dave

What you're dealing with here is a PPG Push Proxy Gateway which most decent aggregators will allow you to connect to and send Wap Push service messages.
There's two types of wap push SI service indication and SL service load, the latter isn't used as much as service load is disabled by most handsets so the service indication is the way to go with this. You prety much just need to post a couple of variables to your gateway provider, dtra is part right with the url and title though you should be able to set some more advanced options like expiry time, actions to perform when it is received, a name, an id and an initiator. That's just a rough spec from one provider on that list I know of. As for placing URLs inside a text message it's just not the same, many handsets like all on HG Three in the UK will allow the user to just click the link to connect, they infact don't support wap push at all and the thing to bear in mind is that wap push can always be disabled on the handset so you'd be wasting time and money in sending to people who don't support it.

Thanks for the info guys.
So how do all these companies who are now offering "ringtones sent stright to your phone" work? Just like txt your choice to 88188 and we will send your new ringtone back... Are they not using wap push? Regards. |

You can't send polyphonic ringtones, realtones or video clips via sms, you can however send 8 bit mono beep beep tones that way.
Anyone who claims they can is either full of the proverbial or someone I should be talking to..... |

I suppose there is MMS but it's costly (interconnects) and not all that reliant.

I'm sure these big companys like "jamster" are using wap push. You txt them the item code you want, such as "ITEM 1" and txt it to 88888 -- they then take the moeny out of your balance, and send you a link to download your item: http://www.jamsterfirst.co.uk/wlw/showxml.do?par=888830&treeid=2522319 -- I dont care about how they charge to get the txt, im just wanting to setup a system the same way, where a user is txt'd a link in a message. Is there any guide or anything to setting up a wap push message. I really just need a system where i can buy say 1000 txts, and they dont expire, and i can use them to send wap push. Any info is great. Regards. |
