Trying to make a gis.. help needed

i have to make a project in school. what i have in mind is a phone app. a gis that uses cell id... i am thinking of adding navigation/routing functionalities too.. if the user asks for his/her location, he/she would have to download the map or view it via wap or gprs... the question is how can i make the routing/navigation functionalities? do the user have to download the database too? please help me...

Thumbs up

Actually this thing not done by WML only. You need to go for J2ME. With the help of J2ME / WML you can do this type of application.. For more details of J2ME Google is best.

thanks for the reply!!! yes, i am planning to use java or c++... what i meant is do i have to make an app that opens the images in the server and when the user asks for directions, the data are obtained from the server right? one problem i am looking into is in my country, gprs $0.20 per 30 mins... if they only view the image, they will be spending much more than saving the file... but if they save the file, how can i copy the database?

what i mean is do i have to make it wap based or a phone app?

sounds to me like you need a java app that the user can download over wap yet the app needs to the ability to take user input and post it to a remote url and act upon the response.

that sounds like the theory of it but i'm not into j2me stuff at all so can't elaborate on how to get the app to work.

once you've got it though deploying it over wap isn't too much hard work, you just need a link on your wap site to a jad file that points to your jar file and as long as the headers are setup server side your client should be able to process the request.
