Vodafone Content Control Goes Live
This is from a press release thingy I just got from one of our suppliers:
BACKGROUND As you will*no doubt be aware Vodafone has been taking an active role in the self regulation of content and has been working hard over the year to deliver a robust Content Control System. This work is now concluding and in-line with their Content Control Guidelines published earlier this year, * WHAT’S HAPPENING From 06.00hrs on July 1st 2004 Vodafone Content Control will come into force. Vodafone customers are being advised about Content Control (via a mix of media including SMS and bill inserts). The exact nature of the message will vary depending upon the customers status, however all messages will provide the user with a freephone (from a Vodafone handset) helpline number from which they can get more information about Content Control, including how to deactivate it. This number is 1581. * Vodafone customers who have Content Control activated will find access to services or web/wap sites which are 18 rated blocked and will be presented with information to explain what has happened (see sample screens below). * All requests to web/wap sites from unregistered users will be passed through the Content Control filter. This will determine if the site they are requesting is content restricted or not, based upon*the Vodafone categorisation rules. In addition, if a user tries to access a new site that isn’t within the existing classification listing, it will be either dynamically or manually assessed for classification within a matter of hours. * WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW & DO Naturally as*Vodafone introduce Content Control there may well be additional customer interaction relating to difficulties in accessing services. Should any Vodafone customer contact you about Content Control access problems, please refer them to our Content Control help line 1581. This provides information on what Content Control is and how to get the bar removed. If a customer contacts you who believes they have had the Content Control bar removed and are still unable to access your service, please direct them to 191 or their service provider’s customer services. GOING FORWARD Please note that the Content Categorisation procedures established in March remain in place and continue to be used.

That content control is the stupidest idea ive ever heard. Is it only for vodafone costumers? It wont be long until other networks do it too.

O2 are doing a good job at the moment of killing it too, GPRS with them is soo bloody poor and they have now introduced a penny per click policy on PPG which means I'll use an emulator rather than pay for something which is so naff. My contract phone on Three has no WAP access as Three are keeping online content inside a walled garden. ![]() At least there was value for money when it was £1 per mb. A penny a page just takes the proverbial I think. With VF if a user is trying to access a non content control site they can get VF to include it, I did hear from one supplier this would be automatic but come on, it's telecoms n stuff. Is there anyone out there who actually knows / tells the truth! lol |
