Hello all you nice and super smart folks,
I'm a beginner at this game and I would like your expertise in testing my wap applications. I have tried using a number of emulators but I discovered they can all do different things from each other when testing the same code. I have decided to simply test on the real wap enabled devices available to me. The problem is : how do I get my wap applications unto my phone without actually having to use my service provider and the internet? - that will end up costing a fortune. I hear it can be done and I'm desperate to learn how. thanks guys and girls. |

Maybe Jabba or someone else knows the specifics of browsing on the phone but bypassing it's network?

I have unlimited wap browsing as part of my service plan, so I wouldn't mind checking something simple for you. I have a Nokia N-gage and can even take a screenshot if you like. Just ask.

Thanks for the responses. " Time Lord ! " . . . funny guy - NOT. (But moderator YES so don't mock me 'Registered User')
Does anyone know if using Apache and a DNS could make it possible to test wap applications on a real device? I got a hint from a boarder line irrate professional, who wasn't too keen on his brains being picked, that my task could be accomplished using Apache and some sort of local DNS ?!? Any takers . . . ? You are talking about locally (home) hosted? If you can get Apache to broadcast your IP to the outside world, then it setting up WML pages is easy... Problem is getting your apache visible outside your local network and many ISPs don't allow home hosting - so check with your ISPs T&Cs.. What exactly do you need to know?

Thanks Jabba 29,
you are right on the money . . . I do mean locally. I'm very new at this WAP thing. What I want to do is write my WAP applications then somehow get them to load unto my phone for me to test my applications. I am tring to avoid the internet as a means to accessing my applications because using my WAP service will cost too much. Can you/anyone help ? Quote:

If you are talking wml application, then you will need an account with a service provide that lets you access the web to access the site, even if it is on your home PC throught the IP provided by your ISP. Hosting doesn't cost much these days... If you are building a game or phone app, then just use data cable or phone software to install / move the files. |

Yes, it is a wireless application. I am trying to write this application and test it on a number of devices.
Getting it hosted is not a problem but accessing it each time I would like to test a new feature or an update is. The expense will snowball. I was told it is possible to test locally without accessing the internet from the phone. Unfortunately my informer is a business person who want a couple of thousand to say anymore. Thanks for your continued help. ps: What do you think of using a WAP Gateway locally on my machine and loading the compiled WML file(s) unto my phone via bluetooth? Got any sources for a WAP Gateway, buddy ? Quote:
