You can most likely play a midi file by adding the HTML code to your phpbb. Hope that helps.

There is a hack for that
Check out phpBBhacks . I was on there today and I saw a hack for adding background music to your forum. You may even find some other cool hacks that you will like.

no hack required... just make a flash file that has the music you want played embedded... it will load it with the page, you could even potentially replace a portion of the header of the page with a music control...
go into the file 'overall_header.tpl' and edit the appropriate section
