blogs on your website
I'm very keen to learn what's involved in blogs. I've been looking into this for a few days only, initially getting info from a relation then searching freeware online. The information about what's actually physically involved is, as usual, pretty patchy. There's no clear, well-written guide to getting started with a blog so, because they're proliferating so fast, I thought it must be a relatively easy thing to do. The network people in my organization assure me it's not so simple. They won't allow me to test the system on the production server, so I'm trying to start up a test Linux box. I now understand there are many issues to tackle before going ahead, and I appreciate your help and any other tips you can give me.
I'm just wondering -- if the web page for the blog interface is actually physically located on a separate server from the rest of the web site, then the navigation links (tabs, breadcrumbs and globals) will need to be set up accordingly. I'm also wondering how the archiving is achieved -- whether it needs to be done manually or if the blog software accomplishes that too. Then there's the issue of enabling search engines to search the blog lists, which I guess would be parcelled up in monthly batches. So much to think about... Matt |

Try MovableType or WordPress
If you want to install your own blog, there is a bunch of freeware you could use. I recommend "MovableType" or "WordPress"
MovableType is the best one, for personal non-business usage. it's free. you can visit URL it needs Dababase support. I tried on my host, but failed. because of some module issue ( I can not install them being of a customer of that host) so I did experiment on my local linux box. it works fine. Due to that issue, I shift to WordPress which is based on PHP&MySql. it's like some message board software, like phpBB. URL To be honest, it's prettyp simple to setup blog on your own server. you just need your Database username/password. All archives are handled automatically, you don't need to do many manual work except your pages layout settings. you can setup either of them on you linux box and test , then shift to your production server. Installation manual somehow complicated, because it needs to consider different kinds of server and database settings. here's my new setup blog with WordPress, you can take a look. URL well, if you want to make it simple, blogger.com is a good choice, or livejournal. hope this helps, particular question, you can shoot message on my blog. Good Luck~~ |
