    cms-portal type of website

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in but if its now, can the mods move it to the right one?

I want to make a site like this one: http://www.deviantart.com/

so I am debating whether to write from scratch or use some premade package to do it.

if I use a premade package, what is it called? CMS? portal?

can I use phpnuke or postnuke to do it?

that site looks like a customized version of a phpnuke-like site. but I'm not sure.

    thanks.

    Hey Edwinx,

I visited this site earlier in the day from another post and I believe at the bottom I saw phpBB. I'm not too sure if there is a package they use for this or if they have a forum run by phpBB. But you should check out their site. I belive it's phpbb.com

Their mosaics page is messed up as well. You might want to do it by hand, depending on how long it takes you to build and code a db/site.

*they have since this morning removed the phpBB in the footer, but it might be found within their page code.

I was thinking of using phpBB for my forum too but what about the other stuff?

    custom or packaged?

or can a package do it?

I recommend doing it yourself, or maybe paying someone to do it. I'm sure there are packages out their, but they're not as easy to change. If you want to have extra fields, or take some away you'll most likely have to edit all pages calling information from a db.

If you do it yourself at least you'll have what you want and need and know how to edit it if you want to add or delete fields and tables later on.

hmm.. good call. I just thought I could get the site up faster with more advanced features if I used a package.

I guess it's just more practice for me
    thanks.
