Colours and laptop.
Hi there,
I have designed a website and I think it looks good on a plasma screen, however when I look at it on a laptop, it looks a bit "dull/dark" The part that I am referring to is the colour green.. it looks nice and bright on a plasma monitor but on the laptop it looks dark. I notice that when I tilt my screen on my laptop the brightness/colour changes... I am not sure what to do.. Also, does anyone know what percentage of users use a laptop? Any suggestions? |

Would be interesting to find out.
Don't forget that there are over 40 million mobile device users in the US alone out there too. This is just for a NC state site, but should give a reasonable view of the trends at least: http://www.ncsu.edu/resnet/survey_d...ndex.php#laptop

Have you run a hardware color calibration tool on your plasma screen? If you haven’t, the colors may even be off on your nice monitor.
Unlike print media, you cannot depend on high color fidelity. Instead, you need to design a color scheme that can withstand some very poor fidelity, and still look pleasant and be usable. Laptops have very poor displays which means the color they display will be incorrect. You can verify by testing over a gamut of colors and comparing the results on your regular monitor vs. the laptop. The lack of fidelity on the laptop will be shocking. Do not try to require high color fidelity. It will render your website unusable except for a small subset of people. |
