I have a small animation that I created in 'PaintShop Animation' but the size is very large. I have the latest version of Flash (but know little about the program as of now). Is there a way to compress the file size in Flash 5 or does it need to actually be created in Flash. (There is no music or sound on the animation).

Flash allows you to create animations in its proprietary format, not .GIF or .JPG, though it may indeed be smaller as a Flash movie. Try looking at this: http://www.ulead.com/ga/runme.htm
Ulead has some pretty good algorithms for compression -- I have had the best luck with their software in this area.
