current standard resolution

Hi,
I was just wondering what the current standard resolution is, can i start design for 1024 resolution or is the standard still 800X600?

Also, i wanted to know, how if it's possible, to include more content on a page that has been designed for 800X600 and stretches to fit the screen depending on the resolution. In 1024 i have a right column which is empty...is there any way to fill it with say maybe images? or just text? with out causing a horizontal scroll bar to appear if the page is viewed in a 800X600 resolution?

I hope i was able to make myself clear.
Thanks,
Heidi

Always try to code for 800x600. I know many people that still use that resolution. In fact, at my work, we're required to make sure our pages fit that.

Depending on how you layout your data, and what you're displaying, you can easily write for bigger screens as well. For instance, a series of thumbnails, without <br> tags inserted will automatically wrap to the page width.

Using tables and a few tricks, you can easily set the max and min width you want an area to resize. By using a GIF that's just a transparent pixel, you can prevent a table field from sizing down too small.
