Both are open source content management system. Only dissimilarity among joomla and wordpress is that in drupal php code is written directly. On the other hand you have to need downloads some plugins. And drupal sites mainly used objects and classes.

Let me present my view on this issue after having worked with both systems extensively. Finally, what I found that the Drupal community seemed to be able to provide solutions for high traffic and more demanding sites issues (caching, performance, SEO) that were more difficult to find among the Joomla community.
To sum it up, Joomla is fantastic, but Drupal got to cover our needs in a better way.

How To Support Multiple Sites : Joomla
If you have multiple websites then it is very hard to manage multiple websites as it is a long time taking work. For the multiple sites, customizations have to be done one by one. This long time taking task can be made easy by having a single platform where all multiple sites can be handled. Joomla is the very popular open source Content Management System where you can easily manage your multiple sites. By utilizing a single installation of Joomla, two or more Domains can be run. Same Theme, Same Database and Same Installation can be shared between two or more Domains. By customizing only a single domain, all other domains can be customized. Multiple Websites can be integrated in Joomla CMS by Virtual Domain Extensions, PHP Redirection, Multisite Extensions.
Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us.

Joomla makes use of the plug-ins for the additional functionality but Drupal uses modules.
