There is no short cut or sticky difference between Joomla and Drupal. When we are using some software, after some days we get friendly with that software. So, the other software becomes difficult for us.The same thing happens with Drupal and Joomla. The main difference between them is that Joomla have a complex coding structure than the Drupal. In Drupal you can design your site according to your wish. But in Joomla it may be difficult for you.

My personal preference is Joomla. I've used Drupal and found Joomla to be more straight forward. I've heard from other web designers that drupal is better for clients.

Doesn't Wordpress do the same thing? I have started to look into these, and it seems to me Wordpress a great option.

    Here is the Difference:
1..Drupal is much more flexible when it comes to the development and setting up the theme and layout of the website. Joomla! is known to be surrounded by the paradigms set by itself, and offers less scope to be flexible.

    2. Joomla! is easy and fast to operate and implement. On the other hand, Drupal is quite a tough nut and have always been the choice of comprehensive businesses and enterprises.

    3. If we put it in a precise manner then, Joomla! offers a nice, professional looking website with a slow, categorised, and limited options, while its actually vice versa with Drupal.

4.Backend admin functionality with the Drupal is not that good, while Joomla! is comparatively better.

5.The Drupal codes are more professional and skilled and of a quality, while it lacks in the case of Joomla!.

6.With Drupal, you are able to use the same log-in-details for every different site.

In comparing Joomla and Drupal - I use them both, but for very different tasks. Which is better - a rake or a shovel? Depends on the need.
Joomla is more suited for displaying content like company home pages, shopping, etc - and does so very simply and very well. Content sites can be done with Drupal - but are faster with Joomla to me. Only frustration - ever seen a good Joomla theme repository like Drupal has?
Drupal is more suited for community involved pages - where people interact, send messages, build the "mysite", etc. Also excels where PHP in the site is needed - natively supported. Setup a Christian networking site and it was very easy with Drupal. May start using for content sites given the ease of finding good tested themes.

Using Joomla for a community-based site is like digging with a rake.

Functionality and use wise, they are the same but with different approach. On which is better, depends on the webmaster or user's preference.
