Discussion Board Assistance

Hi all,

I am starting an online portfolio for my works and I would be grateful to you if you could provide me with the following information:

I actually want to add a small forum or rather a discussion board fin my portfolio, for users to constructively criticise my works and also for general talks - I do want to add a personal touch with my own structure and designs. In which language / software do you advise me to do it?

I am sincerely thinking of sparing a month or maybe two learning the language , could you suggest a language that will be worthwhile on the long run?

and, finally, is it possible to find such scripts, for a discussion board, that I can learn by modifying / tweaking it offline (Basically it is just to play around with graphics and get an idea of the framework of forum/discussion board)?

I sincerely thank you in advance for your kind co-operation.

Regards,

Anthony

I'd recommend PHP. I think this would be a worthwhile language in the long run.

There are several different forum scripts that you can download for free which you could play around with. Take a look at phpBB, Phorum, Simple Machines or XMB. These are all coded in PHP I think.

My opinion would be for XMB, simply because its so easy to modify and theres very little complexity.

PhpBB is heavily bloated and complex, simple machines is a little complex and I've never used Phorum.

I am currently reading previous posts on devshed forums and it does seem that the general trend is that people are using php. I do, for the moment, think that I will try to learn php for the next month. I am currently downloading a document from the official php site. It does seem to be a very versatile and powerful language.

I sincerely thank you for taking the time to advise me.

Sincerely,

Anthony

Would you mind helping me on another issue?

I would like to know whether it is possible to integrate .php scripts in a flash movie?

You can integrate Flash into PHP, however...

its not too difficult. You can have flash expose methods that the PHP can call, although that is certainly not my area of expertise, you should post in the flash forum for that...
