e-commerce : paypal

What do you guys tink about paypal?
I've been to the anti-paypal website, and well, i can't honestyl bring myself to use their services. I do have friends that say paypal is alright..but still..?

Do you guys know of any other similar type of services that are trustworthy?

Or if not, anyone know of a way to enable payments on a website. I was thinking that I don't want to write a script to accept credit-c payments, to much work and too risky. So then I thought I could outsource.. but that would be too expensive. If anything, some business that is relatively inexpensive but offers secure online transactions. Paypal just doesn't sound secure....

Thanks

think not

Dude

I have been attempting to find a way to avoid paypal too but unforutnately You will need to have an account with PayPal, WorldPay, Authorize.net or 2Checkout.com (to name a few) to actually handle the payment aspects of an ecommerce system. I was told once of a way to do it but unless your good to go with internet security and your programming skills are mad nice... i wouldn't even bother.

*sigh*..
Too bad, I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to paypal.
But since you mentioned it, I think I will look into those other services. Thank you.

You're right, I can program but not something this big and not alone. It's simply to much of a risk to have to be the one to make sure transactions are secure.
I do have SSL enabled on my web account, but that's only one piece of the puzzle.

hmm.. I wonder if there is an open source script out there. I think it's time to find out

Once again thank you, for the help and mentioning other options other than paypal.

I am not a huge paypal supporter, but there is something to be said about Market infiltration. Most consumers have a paypal account setup and some are wary to setup with anyone else. I would still allow the opportunity to pay by paypal if I were setting up a site. That is my $0.02.

Good luck and let me know what you find out.

I have had a PayPal account for a couple of years now and have used it many times buying and selling on E-Bay without any problems. Just curious to know why so many people are against it. Is there something I should know?
