frames/tables and photoshop made web pages
Hi,
Newbie question here. I was learning how to create websites with photoshop through tutorials like this one. http://www.sitepoint.com/article/design-website-photoshop/2 I understand how to do it but, what about frames? If you wanted to change the content of the 'main cell', where all the content is, do you just create a new page from the template and change text and images? Isn't that inefficient? If you have a really long page, do you cut it up into x number of sections and create a page for each section? Aren't frames a better way of doing that? If so, how do you get the differnt sections of the table to 'span' frames and fit snug together? Thanks, |

Frames in my opinion are the worst way to make a Web page. Search engines don't like them and they ruin the flow of the page.
I would look into PHP if you want to create multiple pages from one layout design. If you are going to be doing just static pages then yes you will have to cut everything up and make a separate page for each section. Is that inefficient yes and a pain to update that is why if you are creating a large site or one that is going to be updated frequently you are better off learning some server side programming and making your sites dynamic. My two cents, Cuda |

Ok, I've always wanted to get into PHP.
Can anyone refer me to a site that shows how to do this? Thanks, |

You are in a good place here. The dev shed is a great place to learn about php and if you do a google search you will find millions of sites with lots of good info. An old fashoned book is a good idea too.

There is always MACROMEDIA DREAMWEAVER
Quote:
I use MACROMEDIA DREAMWEAVER and frequently use "tracing images" from ADOBE PHOTOSHOP. I never use "frames" but use TABLES and CELLS extensively. I save the thing as a Dreamweaver Template (.dwt) after defining editable regions. I frequently do 25 page sites, using SOTHINK DHTML MENU CREATOR (free trial here http://www.sothink.com/) with a regular <a href="otherpage.htm"> link either at left, bottom or right. The joy of DREAMWEAVER templates is I can change ANYTHING (style, color, navigation, images, etc.) ONE TIME and all pages based on the template change. My record is 43 pages based on ONE SINGLE template. Each page is unique because of the "editable regions" I define. MACROMEDIA now markets it's own CMS that clients LOVE called CONTRIBUTE. R7 DESIGNER has some nice free templates to play around with http://www.r7designer.com/downloads/index.php?category=4 I use MACROMEDIA DREAMWEAVER for my coding needs as well. |
