Getting a domain name?
Hi,
I am new to web design and web site management. I have free webspace with my isp that has an address of the form: URL I want the address for my site to be of the form: URL I have a domain name that I want that no one is using. How do I go about making the .com address my homepage address? I want to spend as little money as possible on this, obviously, and I would go for a slightly less cool address if it was free. Like I say, I know nothing about this side of web site construction, so any advice would be halpfull. Thanks. (edit) I just found out that URL is an actual website. I just put it down as an example, ignore its content. |

You can get a .com from godaddy.com for $8/yr. It's a pretty simple process. Once the domain is in your account, you can forward it to your ISP domain. I'm not sure if you can make it say yourdomain.com all the time, but users will be able to enter yourdomain.com into their web browser and be taken to yourisp.com/yourname.

I always use checkdomain.com to look for a domain name that is available.

namerocket.net is also good,
once you have your domain, you need to point its name servers to your web hosting, (which your admin will know).' then wait up to 48 hours for it to resolve. and you should be set. |
