IE6 testing help please
We're getting reports of mixed results from visitors using IE6 for a site that was redesigned and relaunched last week. http://mothering.com. On our local Windows box, and with online browser emulation tools, it is showing OK. Not as nice as with more modern browsers, but certainly usable.
Will anybody who has this browser please take a look and let me know what you're seeing or post screenshots? The main things we're concerned about are: - Is it showing in a three-column layout? Are any of the columns or regions of the page out of place? - Is this small Sponsored by image visible? Any other comments you might have about the display in IE6 would be of help as well. Thank you! |

Here you go. IE6 service pack 3.
HTH. PS: for some sort of automation, try http://browsershots.org/ PPS: You may want to fix your code a bit too ... ouch - though the errors shouldn't make that much difference I suppose.

Use a browser detection script, then tell IE6 users to download a newer version from the MS download site....
Give them a download link to make their lives... and yours easier ![]() |

I'm well aware that this is a very old browser, and that the ideal situation would be for people just to upgrade, but it still needs to work for those that don't want to or can't.
For instance at my day job, our IT department finally upgraded everyone to IE7 from IE6 a few months ago because there was some key app that still needed it for that long. 95% of employees were using the default browser installed, and had no way to change it on their own. What good would an upgrade link do them? We checked the stats for the portion of visitors using IE6, but it's still enough of their traffic that the client insists it be supported. I think we've made some progress, probably need to do more including to validate again, but what a nightmare. |
