Integrating a Webcam into a webpage

I am designing a website for a client and they want to include a webcam. I understand the process involved but was wondering if anyone could share their experiences of such a process. I am interested as to what webcam's people recommend. Ideally I would like a camera that comes with appropriate webcam software to capture the picture and then FTP it to the website.

All posts and experiences welcome. Thank-you,
Jamie

Hello,
Wait.. you want the webcam to integrate ONTO the clients website, or do you want the webcam to simply take pictures, save to computer, then upload via ftp to the website?

"integrate ONTO the clients website"

Yes, I envisage that the webcam will take a picture, e.g. 'webcam.jpg', hopefully the webcam software will FTP it to the correct directory on my server space. My web page will then have the appropriate meta tags to not cache and refresh every 30 secs or so.

Any experiences? Or am I way off track...

No Problem!

http://www.axis.com

These people sell great cameras that will do what you want. I have several and am very pleased. they are a little pricey but are worth the price. They only need connection to the internet and to be configured to work. If you have a Cable or DSL line, just plug the camera into the Ethernet router.

Examples can be found here:

And this one is used to FTP a photo showing water temperature:

They can send the motion jpg images or static images at an intervial you configure or both at the same time.

This page shows both from the same camera:

Thanks for your post Wayne, that was very helpful. It was good to see working examples as well. I would probably prefer the streaming option, however I believe the client has only ISDN and not ASDL (Broadband).

Is the streaming option viable with this type of internet connection? I assume the static option would be feasible.

TIA, Jamie
