    Image optimization software

I need to optimize all the images that are in my server. I need a desktop program. Some things I need:

    1) Support jpg,bmp,gif and png.

    2) Keep folder structure (folder and subfolders) so I can quickly organize the new results.

    3) Batch support since I have lots of images.

    Thanks in advance !

Photoshop or Fireworks both have good batching functions, and will do everything that you need.

BMP is not a compressed format, so the way optimize images in that format is to convert the each to PNG or JPEG.

Photoshop does not fully optimize PNGs though, so you'll need to use something else for them.

Here's a blog post I wrote a few years ago: PNG Optimization

    I still use PNG Gauntlet.

If this is for a large batch of images I would recommend ImageMagick; this would also likely allow your images to be optimized server side, as most servers provide the ImageMagick command line tools.

The software is freely available for most OS's.
