links underlined
How many think that this rule should strictly be followed. When can you bend it?

I don't necessarily think they should be underlined, but they should be conventionally marked throughout a site, such as being one color and that color only being used for text links.

I agree with Jeremy, I don't necessarily have to underlined links. A long as they are uniform and different from normal text.
However, most people are probably still used to, if using IE, the blue unvisted link, purple for visited etc, so I actually think that blue underlined links maybe are the best for general use (ready for a flaming now ). Of course, it depends on who your audience is too. If aiming towards techy people, then perhaps it doesn't matter so much, as long as there is a consistant theme.Interesting site, www.useit.com and this link, is navigation useful?.

I like to use an underline as a rollover effect. The page has a cleaner look without them, but also lets people know they are links.
<style type="text/css"> A:link {text-decoration: none;} A:visited {text-decoration: none} A:hover {text-decoration: underline;} </STYLE> |

i agree with suckafree, hovers are great for links, of course, they should still be a different colour as well.

i think that limiting links on a page to about 5 or 6 is a good idea. Also i always make it visually clear wether its a link or not . ie Underline or a Borde or a Image rollover.
