Lost in Website design

Hi all, I have a friend that has a product that he wants to try to start selling through a webpage. I am wondering basically where to start.

I know im going to need a host, domain name etc. I don't know alot about ASP, PHP, making SQL databases linked with sites etc. Is there a free or very cheap way to go about getting a bare essentials site up for him? It doesn't need to be fancy just something to try out and see if its profitable for him.

I am a computer programmer but have only dabbled with web languages like ASP etc. I can learn those if need be, but I am just lost on how to go about getting this set up.

Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

if you get a host which has cpanel and fantastico it should have a built in shopping cart program, thats probably the easiest way although you would still probably need to know a bit of html just to make your site, alternatively if you have dreamweaver you dont need much html knowledge and you can make a basic site in 5minutes
try reading up about fantastico and the shopping cart scripts it has that it can install at the click of a button and maybe reading up about html - a google searchshould help you with these

Hi,

www.dimensity.net has very cheap hosting and has fantastico installed! All I ask that if you use this webhost is to put my name in the referal box! They really are a good deal, I live in england and pay about $3.50 a month through paypal for unlimited databases, subdomains, and loads of bandwidth.

Excelent. Please put my name in the referal then I get a new account and I need one for my picture hosting Many thanks.

Jack.

Thanks for all the help, I will check out both that host and fantastico. Figured there was an easy way to get that shopping cart template since I know there are things like VBulletin out there that do easy made forums.

Anyhow, back to more researching! Thanks!
