Making Basic Templates
Just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a real newb, on what program to start learning to make nice crisp page templates?

You should get an understanding of the code behind the templates. You can't get anything to be crisp if you don't know how it works. As for programs, there really aren't any that will teach you. That's up to you. But there are a few that are good for starters, html-kit is one of them. It has code completion, so it gives the user a popup of all available html tags and attributes. It's a time saver and you will learn faster by coding by hand than through a wysiwyg editor.
good luck, webdesign can be fun and tough at times. But most of all fun. I wish you well.
