Need help with an animating menu

Alright this is what I want to do. I want to do a short animation with the button that was clicked (basically move to the right a little bit), and then the menu to drop down under the button.

I've tried creating the menu in Fireworks MX, but the menu delay is for after the menu shows up - delaying how long until the pop-up menu disappears.

Is there a way to take the pop-up menu from Fireworks MX and edit the code to delay the popup menu from appearing for 2 secs so the animation will finish before the menu actually appears? What about a way outside of Fireworks? Should I use Flash MX? Just straight code JavaScript to do it?
