new site ideas please

I am designing a site to promote my dads business. His business involves drawing up plans for houses / house extensions.

Please can ppl recomend some good example sites for my to takes some ideas from.

I am looking for a nice clean 'white' design with soft colours and thin lines

and go to "Web Design" it has links to various sites offering free templates.

Some are only for personal use but there are a number for unrestricted use.

And also sites offering free photos etc.

When i ask a question on these forums, i usually get great advice. Unfortunately, sometimes, ppl try and use this to their advantage, like 'click on my site for free templates'. What they fail to mention is the dodgy affiliate scheme they're hooked up to. Oh yeh, and the free templates are no where to be found.

Correct me if i am wrong

dave2k, you're not wrong, and it really pisses me off when people shamelessly self-promote at your expense... pretty shady...

in any event, the sites above listed (apple and such) are quite complex and achieving similar looks can be more complicated than it first appears...

depending on experience, i'd advise you to perhaps start simple and move your way up

CSS is a great way to add style to your page and differentiate it from "mom-and-pop" pages without getting REALLY complex

On one point you are wrong.
I have no affiliate associations with the free stuff which is on my website, they really are FREE.
I did not realise that the free templates had been withdrawn on the site I featured.
Sometimes it's difficult to keep up with all areas of a web site.
But I will get it up to date soon.

first thanx, but let's not forget the first question about design: WHY?

My site was designed for a webdevelopment/design/consultancy (mine ). Dave2k should first have his WHY? answered if he is to come up with anything good for his site. Not that you can't get ideas from somebody elses site, but you always have to have your own goal clear.

who are you targeting
what are you selling
why are you selling it to them

hmm... when I looked at your site, I can't have been switched on lol Just looked back and it has titles Products and Portfolio, and on the homepage, I can see the words web development. hehe
