photoshop and fireworks
I am just wondering how fireworks stands up to photoshop when it comes to interface design and creation for web apps. I just want to make a smart purchase when the time comes. I use dreamweaver for all the php programming so I was thinking that fireworks would be nice and compatible, but just don't know if it even compares to photoshop.
Thanks for the input |

some of the few good things about fireworks, one is that it allows you to make the actual webpage that you want on the pallette and export it into html in webpage form. I seem to have seem that fireworks can be a little sloppy when hotslicing your areas and exporting into html, and is not as powerful as potoshop but easy to use and has a few small new editing areas that are neat. Check it out and see what you think...

Fireworks is made for web aplications and is a great web program. It has better images optimization than Photoshop IMO. I does not even compare to the power of Photoshop, but that power is only needed for print not web. As far as photo editing Photoshop is far superior, but again for the web Fireworks is just fine.
I swear by Fireworks for the web, but if you need power for Hi res imaging then Photoshop is the way to go. |

Photoshop is a great bitmap editing tool and offers you features above and beyond, but inclusive of those needed for web design.
If you are using, say dreamweaver then Fireworks integrates nicely with it. It has some nice and simple to use optimizing tools and dreamweaver uses it to compose thumbnails for picture galleries. I have used Photoshop for years and I would recommend it to a point and that point is - I prefer Corel's Photo Paint as I think it has a better user interface. It has been for years an easier package to use as it has similar interfaces/shortcuts etc. to most windows Apps something that Adobe was very slow to take up. Corel have been using web features for longer also and optimizing is a breeze. Still if you are using it for mainly web design then go for Fireworks, its default png source file feature is great for those constantly changing web graphics. |
