Regarding Web Site Design

Okay --

I am a member of my Property Owner's Assn and they would like to have a website. I have only ever used Frontpage to do previous designs.

The property assn. wants to have a username and password so can that be created through Frontpage? I do not have a host server as of yet to operate the webpage. I wanted to place some pictures for the members, but if they weren't members they couldn't see the pictures. Is this possible with the little knowledge that I have about websites?

I have a bunch of web templates that I can customize with Frontpage and Adobe Photoshop, but am wondering about the username and password. Another question deals with a possibility of email accounts being set up for the 300 users that my property owner's assn will have. I guess that would depend on the capabilities of the website host.

I figured that the login/password was created through a database. Does anyone know if that database is anything like Access?

Please answer my questions!

Amy

Urgh.. Front Page. No.
Access Very Big No.
You can do some logins without a database i.e. 4 or 5 but for 300 you'd need a database, either way you'd need some form of server side scripting.

Whoa...big project!

Amy-

You got yourself into quite a pickle here....this project is in a scope that is quite a bit bigger than what you estimate.

Seriously, you shouldn't tackle this one using frontpage and/or adobe. They are not intended to be used in this manner.

If you can update pages yourself, why build out a database driven site. Just don't give out the URL of the secure page.

If you really want to do it right, build the site with a professional. Someone who can build you a photo gallery, login, admin area, etc.

....just my opinion, plus I am sure you have better things to do with your time. Get the H.A. to pony up a grand and put the pressure on a professional.

Heck, I could even have our design staff build it for you if you wanted. It won't be free, but it will be great!
