Running a server on a LAN
For testing purposes, I'm running a web server on my desktop (Abyss). It works great accessing it as localhost (127.0.0.1), but I'm not sure how to broadcast it so I can access it from other computers as well. I thought people might be able to access it by just going to my IP, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Any ideas?

Are you using any kind of firewall software?

I'm not sure then, is Apache and MySQL running? I've used the FoxServ software package before and the only problem I had was ZoneAlarm blocking incomming requests.

URL should do it.

Use your LAN IP Address
If you are on a Windows LAN with NetBIOS (WINS) installed, then URL should work. Otherwise, drop to a command prompt and do an ipconfig to get your LAN ip address. Then use URL address.

I always use the html checker at http://netmechanic.com to check if my page is broadcasting to the Internet.
