Server-side file?

I'm going to put a button on my website so a visitor can download a rather large file. But I'd like the file to reside on my server, instead of my website. I suspect this is a common situation but I don't know what's required. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean? Do you want the file located in a directory that isn't accessible directly from the Internet? If that's the case, then you want a PHP file download script - I'll find one for you if this is the case.
