Question Video streaming on webpage?

Hey all... again!

I was wondering whether anyone knew anything about video streaming? I've uploaded a couple of short .AVI clips on to my webspace.

When visitors come to my site, I prefer them to just view the clips (streaming) rather than download them in order to view it.

Is there any code for that or would that be server permission settings?

Thanks for your help in advance once again & again... & again!

Hi ,
Avi clips are not good idea for streaming, first try to decode it in real player or micrsoft format. I use Pinnecle software to do it or use windows media player.
once you done that it makes a small file for straming.

There are two camps: streaming and progressive download (file is actually downloaded to the comp before playback begins, ala quicktime). Really it depends on what your userbase needs are. If they don't care about quality and prefer speed then streaming is the way to go, with that you can go with Real or Windows Media, Any windows box can decode windows media, with Real you have to download the Real player and codec. If your users want a higher quality and are willing to download then quicktime,DivX, or Xvid are the way to go.

Personally I prefer quality but your needs could be different from my preferences ;-)

Sorry I this is a stupid question!

I think the easiest way is to bye a simple and easy to use software I started with
Pinnicle check this site
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/
it seems pinnicle studio version 9 is the latest.
or use other editing software .
once you capture your avi file say to pinnicle you will be able to enable it for real player or windows player. and obviusly up load your file to your web server.

Hi,

I imported the .AVI file into Premiere Pro timeline, then export it to .WMV (streaming video format). Finally I just have to upload the .WMV to my web server.

I have many videoclips posted on my Virtual Travel web site if you would like to take a look to see how they look like:

Look for "Quick links to my video files"

Cheers!

Conversion Software

Some freeware conversion software you can use to convert between avi and wmv is found at http://www.stoik.com.

For embeded streaming video, avi is not the solution, you can better try, wm, or ram, mpeg is also fine if users / visitors have quick time installed on their end.
