Web accessibility?

Hey all, I know it slightly off topic but I’ve got a bit research to do with regards to web accessibility for the blind, and I’m in search of your view or opinions with regards to this.

Would you consider making available for the blind when building a new site?

Are you aware of any Acts or Sections in your country?

Design or Access? What is your priority?

If you think of anything else, feel free to add it!

Cheers

Not to be harsh, but you might NEVER get a blind person to visit your site. Its just reality. Unless you are targeting it specifically for the visually impared, i would go for design instead of access. just my thought.

Well, I'm unaware of acts/santions in my country but for the most part accessibility is easy, w3c has some definitions for three levels of guidelines of accessibility. a(required) aa(recomended) and aaa(optional). I don't use it on my site, I may sometime. I've proposed to the gov't that I build a site for them and it will include leve aa conformance. The guidlines are a little hard to follow at first but once you get the format it's displayed in it's fairly easy. I don't know about design limits though.

Accessibility all the way, It's discrimination to design a site not accessible to everyone.

Obviously it's also impossible not to discriminate against someone, but that doesn't stop me from doing my very best.

Whether it is the law or not (In the UK It does happen to be the law for any site which provides a service) I will not discriminate unless I really have no choice, and in that case I'll try to make thinks available by other means.

Personally, I design to the afore mentioned W3C Double A standard (W3C guideline summary)

Since this isn't actually asking for a critique, I'm moving this to web design help.
