website icon
hey all,
this has been bothering me for quite some time now. you know how in firefox and safari (os x) they often show a little tiny picture next to the URL in the URL window? when i view my site, it doesn't have one, and i'd like to know how to get one. is it something that has to do with your domain name's company, or is there a way with PHP to do it? thanks, ryan |

its called a favicon... you need to make an image named favicon.ico and put it in your web directory... you may have to use a icon editor program.

actually a lot of websites do have these favicons but IE does not do a very good job of displaying them. There is a trick to get one to show if there is one.
Click and drag the current icon slightly and then repeat this about 2-3 times. This will make it appear (but again there may not be an icon in the first place) edit: actually devshed has one. Use the trick above to make it appear ![]() |

oh, and since your on os x, i'll tell you that safari remembers favicons indefinitely (look on version tracker for programs to make it forget them) because safari will even remember what sites don't have them, so since you have seen your site without one don't try to kill yourself because safari won't show it, it just remembers that it didn't have one before
